Wow, what a great value from Amazon. I built my entire deck with this drill on two charges. It has all the power I need around the house.
I looked at several other makes at more than twice the price before I bought this unit. I'm very happy I went with this one. The chucking system works very well too.
I have no complaints with this fine product from Black & Decker. Shipping was very fast too.

Makita TD020DSEW 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver Kit Review

Makita TD020DSEW 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was in the market for a new cordless drill and I walked into Louis Williams Hardware (makitadirect.com) and was tempted by the owner to take a peek at the new Makita.I was amazed at the power of the tiny device but was not sure how it would fit into my needs.I left, but went back and bought one and set to work installing 4 new replacement windows in my basement. Here is what I learned:

1.This is a single speed, impact tool. The impact feature allows the driver to turn long and stubborn screws in hard material using a smaller motor and light weight battery, while also being very easy on your wrist. It does ALL the work.

2. As I said, it IS single speed, giving you somewhat less control for delicate work; it takes some getting used to.

3. As a trade off for its ability to drive stubborn screws, it does make slower, and slower progress as screws get more stubborn. You can screw in screws faster with a standard driver. But, like the Energizer Bunny, this thing keeps going, and going, until it gets there.

4. You are much less likely to strip the head with this tool.

5. Battery life is incredible and recharging is fast with the Lithium Ion system.

6. If you are going to be drilling, you will want to get special drills with a built in impact fitting. It does drill nicely, BUT, there is only one speed making starting a hole tricky in hard materials.

7. It has a nice LED work light.

8.The forward/reverse switches have a definite handedness to them. A lefty might not like it.

9. It is inexpensive. At $99, it is a great, reliable tool.

10. I enjoyed installing the windows, and used the tool for all aspects except drilling into the masonary. For that, I used a corded drill.

11. It comes with a nice little holster.

12. Consider buying the Makita impact accesory kit. It is a bargain way to get the drills and quick change bit holder.

13. In summary, a nice accessory with a thousand uses, but it will not replace your cordless drill.

Product Description:
The most powerful in-line screwdriver to date! Why? Well, two reasons: it sports the extended run time, high energy output Lithium-Ion batteries, and it's also an impact driver. It may seem unbelievable to have an impact driver so small, but it's true. An impact driver hammers the chuck laterally to give increased torque to drilling and driving operations, as opposed to just relying on the motor to spin the chuck. This powerhouse provides 12-volt power, with Lithium-Ion and impact energy, in only 7.2 volts. This sweet little tool offers twice the torque of other 7.2 volt in-line screw drivers and any other in its class. Most in-line screw drivers are only 3.6 volts. This new Makita tool offers twice the voltage, twice the power and twice the run time of standard models.Other great features include a comfortable rubber grip, an easy to reach thumb on/off switch and the easiest to use, all-metal, quick-change, hex, Insty bit chuck. The chuck only accepts drill bits and driver bits that have a hex shank at the opposite end of, for example, a no. 2 Phillips driver bit. This really speeds up bit changes. Hex Insty bits have really become the standard and are offered in every drill bit kit available. There is an accessory Makita chuck that converts the quick-change hex bit chuck into the older style 3-jaw chuck that will accept round shank drill bits, so you can use your existing bits. What I like most about this tool is it bends nearly 90 degrees for controlled driving. Driving in-line is great for fast, light-duty driving. For example, electricians use these tools for installing wall plates over outlets and switches. Driving at a right angle is used for driving longer screws and driving/drilling where more controlled accuracy is needed. This tool also has an LED light under the chuck that illuminates the work area, which is great for working in dark cabinets and under shelves.

Bosch PS20-2A 12-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Pocket Driver with 2 Batteries Review

Bosch PS20-2A 12-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Pocket Driver with 2 Batteries
Average Reviews:

I bought this as a gift for my Dad for Christmas.I already own (and love) its main competitor, Milwaukee's 12v driver so I decided to do a quick side-by-side comparison. In terms of look, size, and performance, the two tools are about as equal as can be.The Milwaukee did seem to drive the 3" screws slightly faster but it was a very small difference.Overall, the two were basically equal in everything except one factor - the mechanism for changing bits.On the Bosch, you pull the chuck straight out to release the bit, but you need to continue holding it out to insert the new bit (basically need two hands). On the Milwaukee, you pull out the chuck and it locks into the open position, then you insert the new bit and it locks into place (only need one hand to do a bit change). For this reason alone, I would rate the Milwaukee just ahead of the Bosch. In any case, I would be thrilled with either.

The PS20-2A can drive 100 three-inch screws on a single battery charge. View larger.12-Volt Litheon Batteries for Long-Lasting Power
The PS20-2A gets its power from Litheon batteries, the most advanced lithium-ion batteries available today. These batteries allow more battery charges and provide longer runtime with no memory effect--meaning the batteries don't need to be empty before charging. The batteries can also be taken out of the charger before charging is complete.
Other benefits include: significantly less self discharge; electronic cell protection that guards against overheating, overload, and deep discharge; and no loss of power from the first to last screw or hole. Best of all, these batteries will fully charge in 30 minutes and will be at 85% capacity in just 15 minutes.
Compact, Lightweight Design for Efficient, Fatigue-Free Work
Measuring only 6.0 by 6.5 inches--nearly half the size of stick drivers and other ultra-compact drills/drivers--and weighing just 1.8 pounds (with batteries), the PS20-2A packs a punch without taking up too much space. Its compact design makes it easier to drill straight holes at high and otherwise odd angles, allowing you to accomplish a day's worth of professional drill/driving tasks without excessive fatigue. You can also carry the tool in your pocket, hang it on your tool belt, or keep it in a nail pouch when you're climbing ladders or moving from task to task.
High Torque and Fast Speeds for Quick, Reliable Results
This powerful tool provides over 100 in./lbs. of torque--25% more torque than comparable models--for ultra-efficient driving and drilling. It drives 100 three-inch screws (per battery charge) and drill holes up to 1/2-inch in diameter. The PS20-2A also offers variable speeds up to 500 RPM--25% more speed for fast, reliable results.
10+1 Clutch with Max Setting for Improved Control
The 10+1 clutch system, similar to that of standard drills/drivers, offers 10 drives and one "Max" drill setting for control and precision, while eliminating over-torque in soft-base materials. The Max setting also allows for pilot and other small bore holes. For added convenience, the 10+1 controls are conveniently located at the front of the drill, so it's a snap to make quick adjustments.
Ergonomics and Soft Grips for Long-Term Comfort
Besides its light weight, the PS20-2A boasts great ergonomics and soft grips to deliver comfort over extended periods, giving you the freedom to work all day without over-taxing your wrists and hands. And it's easy to keep bits handy, thanks to the tool's "Clic-Change" bit holder, which also makes 1/4-inch hex shank bit changes quick and easy. Additionally, the chuck is magnetized to secure locking bits.
Variable-Speed Trigger and Forward/Reverse Button for Precision and Versatility
The PS20-2A drills up to 3/8 inch in wood and 1/4 inch in steel. To help ensure high-quality results, the variable-speed trigger provides sensitivity and control for optimum precision. And for added versatility, there's a forward/reverse button for driving or removing screws.
User-Friendly and Durable for Hassle-Free Drilling and Driving
A motor brake features an improved design for serial screwing, while a metal clutch ring has a robust design for long-term durability. There's also an LED to illuminate dark or enclosed areas while you work.
ProVantage Guarantee
The PS20-2A comes with the ProVantage three-year protection plan, which guarantees two years of battery protection and one year of tool protection. Under this plan, you can receive two years of free battery replacements, tool replacement for one year, and a free tool repair package for the second and third years.

Bosch 37618-01 18-Volt 1/2-Inch Brute Tough Litheon Drill/Driver with 2-Fat Batteries Review

Average Reviews:

alright this is actually the first review i've ever written so sorry if it is confusing. But I've been a dewalt man for years and we have seven dewalt cordless drills. Recently I decided to try the new bosch litheon ion drills since they claimed to be the best made. Well this drill did not disapoint! First off this thing is made in switzerland and when you look at it you can tell by the fit and finish. In other words this is very well built and will last for many years. The next thing that I noticed is how smooth this thing is and how well the variable speed trigger works. It is very easy to control how fast your screw goes in where as my dewalts are a lot more touchy. Don't get me wrong I love dewalt and still do but you can't beat the quality and smoothness of this bosch drill. When you pull the trigger it is so quiet that it makes you think that it is not as powerful as the dewalt but in my comparison tests it puts in a screw just as fast! I also like how the light is on the bottom of the drill, that way it proves to be more useful than if it is right below the chuck cause when it is right below the chuck it seems like alot of shadows are cast. Also the handle and grip is more comfortable than my dewalts. Anyways to sum it up this drill is awesome and I would give it a nod over the dewalt, the only thing I would say dewalt would be better at right now is there 18 volt impact driver that you can also buy a chuck for which would turn it into a drill as well. There is nothing out there that will beat dewalts 18volt litheon ion impact driver but I didn't really care to spend the extra 100 dollars that would take to buy it as well as the additional chuck.

The 37618-01 utilizes state-of-art lithium-ion battery technology and Bosch's proprietary ECP (Electronic Cell Protection) system to provide maximum cycle life, minimum self-discharge, and no memory effect. Best of all, these batteries will fully charge in 30 minutes and will be at 85% capacity in just 15 minutes.
Up to one pound lighter than comparable 18-volt NiCad drills/drivers, the 37618-01 won't weigh you down. It's ideal for a wide range of drilling and fastening jobs, from hanging curtains to building a deck; from making automotive repairs to installing cabinetry.
Unique, Flexible Power System
Like all tools in Bosch's 18-Volt line, the 37618-01 can be used with either a 1.3-Ah BAT609 Slim Pack battery or a 2.6-Ah BAT318 Fat Pack (two included). If you're looking for a lighter-weight option, the Slim Pack is the perfect choice. If longer runtime is what you need, the Fat Pack will do the job. Bosch is the only power tool manufacturer that provides this option.
Fast Speeds, High Torque, and Durable Construction for Reliable Results
The 37618-01 works at speeds up to 1,800 RPM and provides 650 in./lbs. of torque. Durashield housing, unibody construction, and a steel-reinforced collar help you withstand real-world conditions, like temperature extremes, rain, dirt, debris, and drops.
The 37618-01's Durashield Housing is constructed with ABS/Nylon composite, which makes the housing flexible and impenetrable. Unlike competitive tools, which use a conventional plastic housing, Durashield will not crack and can easily withstand 10-foot drops.
This tool also features unique unibody construction with three steel straps that keep the motor, gears, and clutch together. This ensures that the gears never separate from the motor, and it keeps the drill functioning even after drops.
Additionally, the 37618-01 boasts an exclusive steel-reinforced collar that protects the nose of the drill. It provides extra reinforcement in the event of drops on the chuck and prevents the chuck from bending or breaking off.
Easy Bit Changes and Balanced Design for Utmost Control
The 37618-01 comes complete with a single-sleeve 1/2-inch metal chuck for optimum durability and one-handed bit changes, as well as increased drill-bit capacity for versatility. And for maximum control, comfort, and balance, the tool boasts a newly designed handle-grip with finger support.
25 Clutch Settings for Optimum Precision
To ensure precise results, the 37618-01 provides 25 clutch settings--the highest number of settings available on any model that's currently on the market. Settings 1-20 are perfectly suited for driving small screws; settings 21-25 provide the right amount of power for large screws and large drill bits, such as auger bits or self-feed bits.
Smart Features for Easy Use
To keep operation smooth and to help you stay fatigue-free, the 37618-01's ergonomic design provides optimum comfort and control--even during all-day jobs. And for even greater convenience, LEDs provide illumination when you are working in dark or enclosed areas.

The 37618-01 comes with the ProVantage three-year protection plan, which guarantees two years of battery protection and one year of tool protection. Hitachi DB3DL 3.6-Volt Li-Ion Cordless Screwdriver Review

Hitachi DB3DL 3.6-Volt Li-Ion Cordless Screwdriver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted a smaller power driver than my 7.2 volt Dewalt, which is too heavy and bulky to just stash in a tool belt. My choice was between the Hitachi DB3DL and the Bosch PS20-2 Litheon 10.8 Volt Lithium Ion Pocket Driver With 2 Batteries. Both are excellent, so which should you choose? Ideally, you should handle both.

Weight: The Bosch is about twice as heavy. I hardly notice the Hitachi in a pocket or tool belt.

Power: The Hitachi is a light-mid duty tool. It's surprisingly powerful, but the extra voltage in the Bosch enables it to rival larger drill-drivers in all but the most demanding situations.

Versatility: I like the hinged configuration of the Hitachi, enabling you to use it in a straight or pistol-grip configuration. The Bosch is pistol-grip only.

Convenience: The Bosch has a separate reversing switch like the ones found on nearly all power drills. (I frequently curse these switches since I frequently press them by accident and forget to press them when I should.) I prefer the rocker switch on the Hitachi, which is very intuitive and lets me reverse in a single operation. When doing electrical work, it's nice to be able to reverse simply by moving my finger on the trigger.

The Bosch will likely appeal to you if you're looking for something like a conventional drill-driver in a smaller, lighter package without sacrificing too much power. I own 3 Bosch routers and 2 sanders, so I can honestly say that I love Bosch tools. The quality is great. So why didn't I buy the Bosch PS20-2?

I chose the Hitachi because of it's very light weight, comfort, and convenience. Since my purchase, I've picked up the Bosch a few times to see if I made the right choice. Every time, my answer is "Yes." Unless you really need the 10.8 volt torque, you'll should be very happy with the Hitachi.

The only improvement I'd like is a clip for a bit or two, but that would probabably make the tool fatter. In this case, slim is better.

Lightweight lithium-ion batteries and a charger (both included) save you time and energy.
Superior Power-to-Weight Ratio
Offering 44 in/lbs of torque in a body that weighs less than one pound, the DB3DL has a better power-to-weight ratio than the competition. And with a two-speed transmission that offers maximum no-load speeds of either 200 or 600 RPM, this screwdriver fastens and pre-drills wood, mild steel, aluminum, and more.
Additionally, the DB3DL's 21-stage clutch provides both high torque and precision driving. A reversing trigger switch lets you quickly choose from 0-600 RPM for the job at hand.
Chock-Full of User-Friendly Features
In addition to its powerful motor, the DB3DL has a host of features that help you get the job done with comfort and convenience. To start, this screwdriver features a non-slip elastomer-grip handle that makes long jobs more comfortable. The handle is adjustable to two positions, allowing for a choice of straight-grip or pistol-grip operation.
For added convenience, the DB3DL includes a 1/4-inch quick-change hex chuck with bit lock for fast and easy bit changes. An added bonus, an integrated LED work light helps illuminate dark work areas.
Designed to reach places that other cordless screwdrivers just can't, the Hitachi DB3DL is compact and lightweight, measuring 9.75 inches and weighing just 0.9 pounds.
HXP Lithium-Ion Batteries Last 3X Longer and Weigh 50% Less
The DB3DL owes its light weight to two HXP Lithium-Ion batteries. These 1.5-Ah batteries weigh half of what traditional NiCd or NiMH batteries weigh--in fact, tools featuring HXP batteries are on average one pound lighter than tools using traditional batteries.
Additionally, HXP batteries last three times longer than their competition--these batteries will last approximately 500 charges before needing to be replaced! Overall, less frequent battery charges and longer battery life mean reduced operation costs for you.
The DB3DL's charger will power the tool's batteries in just 30 minutes and features a built-in Cool Air Flow system to maintain optimal charging temperature.
Every Hitachi cordless power tool is designed to the highest standards and rigorously tested for both performance and durability. Like all HXP Lithium-Ion cordless tools, the DB3DL comes with a 10-year Lithium-Ion Tool Warranty, which protects against possible defects in materials and workmanship. Also, the tool's batteries come with a two-year warranty and the charger comes with a one-year warranty.

Milwaukee 2410-22 M12 12-Volt 3/8-Inch Drill/Driver Review

Milwaukee 2410-22 M12 12-Volt 3/8 inch Drill/Driver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a long time Milwaukee fan, it was worrying a few years ago when ownership of Milwaukee changed. With that change, there was a concern that the longstanding quality of their tools would diminish. With this 2410-20 drill, there seems to be little to worry about!

The straight and true:the tool is SOLID, fit/finish is excellent, there is no flex in the handle (other than the comfortable, soft coating). The battery has zero slop in the handle, works for longer than expected and charges quickly.Given the compact size, torque is also better than I hoped for with high speed being a great choice for driving screws (took the tool to work for moving audio equipment in a bunch of sound racks).

The wobble:there is only one part that I've found to deserve criticism - the chuck. It seems great and very similar to the excellent chucks on the V18 drills (minus the carbide grip inserts). While there is very little run-out in mine, the chuck auto-loosens.Driving screws in results in the momentum (on high speed) loosening the grip a little bit each time a screw hits bottom (or the brake of the drill is used when letting go of the trigger).Really cranking the chuck tight helps in delaying the loosening but does not seem to eliminate the problem with the screwdriver bit dropping out after 15 to 20 screws.Although this is a huge problem, the tool is good enough otherwise that it is still a keeper.

After experiencing the positive qualities of this Milwaukee tool, I'm very curious to try out more of the M12 line (especially the impact driver for use with screws).Luckily, the new Milwaukee seems to have done a lot to increase the engineering and design speed of tools and seems to have not lost the high quality that makes older Milwaukee tools legendary.

Edited 9-6-2009 to add:Turns out mine is not the only sample that self-loosens the chuck. This is something to be very aware/wary of and it probably would help if each of us with faulty chuck operation went to [...] and communicated to them through their system. It does not take much imagination to see a decent size, sharp spade bit drop from the chuck and poke a hole in a leg of someone working while wearing shorts.

Edited 7-26-2010 to add:Between my experience with 3 of these drills and reading the comments to this review, it seems clear that Milwaukee has a product where they have failed in both design and testing.Given the time they have had to fix the problem but have not, I suggest passing over the M12 tools until Milwaukee demonstrates production of tools that work 100% properly.

New Rating - One Star - what good is a drill that can't hold a bit??

Reliable, long-lasting LITHIUM-ION power is just one part of a full feature set. M12 Lithium-Ion Power: Compact, Lightweight, and Dependable
Cordless power frees you from the cost and waste of disposable batteries and the hassle of setting up and using manual tools, but a cordless tool is only as reliable as its battery--that's where M12 LITHIUM-ION batteries come in. You can trust the 1.4-amp-hour lithium-ion battery that powers each Milwaukee M12 tool to deliver long runtimes and fade-free power. Lithium-ion batteries will also offer long battery life, so you'll save money by avoiding replacements.

Bosch 17618-01 18-Volt 1/2-Inch Brute Tough Litheon Hammer Drill/Driver with 2 Fat Batteries Review

Bosch 17618-01 18-Volt 1/2 inch Brute Tough Litheon Hammer Drill/Driver with 2 Fat Batteries
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great go to drill for concrete, stone and light structural steel.I haven't used it on anything heaver than a small I beam but it did 1/2" holes just fine with a good bit. This is a good all around replacement for a 3/4" HD drill or even a 1" in some cases. The trigger pull is nice and makes slow starts easy. The side handle is friction fit so it can be anywhere except directly in front of the trigger (you can put it there but it interferes with the trigger and visa versa). This is a viable replacement for a ?" drive drill (my old Craftsman finally gave out) and it does a better job on concrete and stone. If you are looking for something that does 1" or larger holes this is not it (well occasional 1"); but for more mundane work its just fine. The case is well made and the keyless chuck works just fine.Great warrantee.

Now the down side (not much):
Its large and heavy, not quite as big as my old sears ?" but weighs a little more with the battery.
Handle all ready mentioned.
The case is well made but not well designed. It only holds a few loose bits (small) and stubby driver bits that need a magnetic bit attachment.Plenty of room for a better arrangement or even provision for one of Bosch's driver bit kits.
Battery life?In my use I can't drill enough in heavy materials any more that the second battery isn't recharged. But this may be an issue in hot environments or if you leave the batteries in direct sun light (I work mostly above 10,000').A friend who does a lot of engineered stone cabinet work (he's 24 and 6'4" large for his size) wound up buying a 3rd battery but he's happy now.
A couple real nits. There is no index on the clutch, given the overall fit an finish (made in Switzerland not China) it's a surprise. The manual says there is a bit compartment in the handle--a couple of rubber extrusions which can hold a driver bit is not a compartment!

BTW the serial number is on the handle under the battery.

The 17618-01 utilizes state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology and Bosch's proprietary ECP (Electronic Cell Protection) system to provide maximum cycle life, minimum self-discharge, and no memory-effect. Best of all, this battery will fully charge in 30 minutes and will be at 85% capacity in just 15 minutes.
It also offers the highest BPM in its category--over 30,000. And up to one pound lighter than comparable 18-volt NiCad drills/drivers, the 17618-01 won't weigh you down.
Unique, Flexible Power System
Like all tools in Bosch's 18-Volt line, the 17618-01 can be used with either a 1.3-Ah BAT609 Slim Pack battery or a 2.6-Ah BAT318 Fat Pack (two included).
The 17618-01 works at speeds up to 2,050 RPM and provides 650 in./lbs. of torque. Durashield housing, unibody construction, and a steel-reinforced collar help you withstand real-world conditions, like temperature extremes, rain, dirt, debris, and drops.
The 17618-01's Durashield Housing is constructed with ABS/Nylon composite, which makes the housing flexible and impenetrable.
Additionally, the 17618-01 boasts an exclusive steel-reinforced collar that protects the nose of the drill. It provides extra reinforcement in the event of drops on the chuck and prevents the chuck from bending or breaking off.
Easy Bit Changes and Balanced Design for Utmost Control
The 17618-01 comes complete with a single-sleeve 1/2-inch metal for chuck optimum durability and one-handed bit changes, as well as increased drill-bit capacity for versatility.
To choose the correct speed, simply use the variable-speed trigger and enjoy consistent, controlled operation.
Smart Features for Easy Use
To keep operation smooth and to help you stay fatigue-free, the 17618-01's ergonomic design and two-tone, soft-grip handle provide optimum comfort and control--even during all-day jobs. And for even greater convenience, LEDs provide illumination when you are working in dark or enclosed areas.
ProVantage Guarantee
The 17618-01 comes with the ProVantage three-year protection plan, which guarantees two years of battery protection and one year of tool protection. Under this plan, you can receive two years of free battery replacements, tool replacement for one year, and a free tool repair package for the second and third years.

Bosch CLPK40-180 18-Volt Litheon 4 Tool Combo Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great set of tools so far.The drill is strong, smooth, and very quiet. The reciprocating saw is pretty smooth and the trigger allows good speed control.I used the circular saw this weekend to break down 3/4 inch plywood. The Bosch cuts quickly and cleanly without bogging down, even when the plywood is warped and bowed.2x4 lumber was no match either, and the saw performed flawlessly with the stock blade.Battery life was excellent.I had not charged the batteries since the day I bought the kit about two months ago and I cut a total of twenty feet of 3/4 inch ply, and made about twenty five cuts on 4 inch PVC pipe on one two month old battery charge.I was impressed. This kit is worth the money, even if you have to pay full price.I can't wait to try the new impact driver to compare it to my Makita 18v lithium.

DEWALT D21002 6 Amp 3/8-Inch Drill Review

DEWALT D21002 6 Amp 3/8 inch Drill
Average Reviews:

This is a great drill, but know what you're getting: This model has a big motor yet only spins up to 850 rpm (which is 1/3 the speed of a "normal" drill). It can power-through most anything and is perfect for spade bits, auger bits, and hole saws. For all your other drilling needs, a light duty model is what you want. Bottom line: this is a great tool at a reasonable price.

DEWALT DWD215G 1/2-Inch 10-AMP Mid Handle Grip Drill Review

DEWALT DWD215G 1/2 inch 10-AMP Mid Handle Grip Drill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a Milwaukee 18V cordless drill for years (Lok-Tor serie, not the new Chinese made M18 cordless serie) and it's served me well. However batteries for these are unreliable and the Li-ion replacements cost too much (still had to buy a set to revive my cordless tools, cost is close to $200) so I decided to look for a corded alternative to take its place whenever possible. After HOURS of reading reviews and specs, I decided to go for this Dewalt one. It has power, speed and other features that I really like. My brand of choice is Milwaukee in the past but Milwaukee has decided to make most of their tools in China now and I'm definitely NOT a fan of Chinese products. I've had bad experiences with Dewalt brand in the past (10+ years ago) but thought they probably have improved. Not so.

Pros:
1. Decent price.
2. NOT "Made in China" craps. This is made in Mexico.
3. LOTS of power (10 AMP). In fact, it is the most powerful drill in its class.
4. Mid-section handle give a balanced hold.
5. SPINDLE LOCK!!! Can't stress how important this is on keyless chucks. You can tighten bits a lot tighter than free-spinning spindle, which requires 2 hands to tighten bits. Very helpful when drilling large holes with round-shanked bits because the chuck clamps on the bits a lot tighter hence, eliminate bit spinning. For people who has never used a spindle-lock corded drill before: it's like the chuck tightening system found on most mid-range to high end cordless drill or corded drills with single sleeve chucks. Trust me, you won't want to go back to drills without spindle lock after using one.
6. High RPM for 1/2" drill. Most 1/2" drill goes for around 850RPM spindle speed. This one goes to 1200RPM. This is great for drilling small holes (faster, requires less push-down force).(Some hammer drills can go as fast as 3000RPM free spinning but they're of a different class, for different purpose.)
7. Nice LFA single-sleeved keyless chuck with brazed-on CARBIDE jaw liners. It will last a long time, even when your bit spins in it often.

Now the CONS:

1. Biggest draw-back for me is the concentricity of the spindle. I've used LFA chucks and know that they're very good chucks so that eliminates the question about the chuck's concentricity. A test piece of 1/4 diameter X 6" long ground Thompson shaft wobbled a lot at the end when spun in this drill. Estimated about 0.020"-0.050" run-out on it. Naturally, I brought back to to local store where I bought it to exchange for a better one. Tested the new one at the exchange counter to make sure and it did EXACTLY the same. Went and grabbed another one, same thing. They had only 3 in stock so I got a refund to go to another store in hope to get a better one. The clerk thought drills were meant to be like that so I brought in my 1/2" Milwaukee 18V Lok-Tor drill (German made) and chucked to shaft into it. It ran extremely straight with no run-out detectable by eyes or finger placing at the end of the shaft. He just shook his head in disbelief. Tested 3 more drills at a different store and the exact same thing happened. Got really pissed because I really liked the "Pros" mentioned above. I assemble machines together and precision drilling is a must so a wobbling chuck won't do it for me. It makes the drill "walks" out of a center-punched mark easily and makes a tap-drilled hole a lot bigger than anticipated (which results in very shallow thread depth or you can't tap it at all).

2. Close examination of the chuck mounting system revealed another short-cut adopted by Dewalt: there is NO chuck screw to hold the chuck in place. Not even a tapped hole for the screw. In place of this hole is just a center-drilled mark. This is normally a left-hand screw to hold the chuck in place when you're running it in counter-clockwise rotation. It prevents the chuck from being unwound out of the spindle in reverse when a lot of torque is applied to the chuck in that direction. If you ever need to drill a large hole into metal (5/8" and larger) and the bit binds when it exits the hole, this whole chuck+bit may just unwind from the spindle when you put it in reverse in an attempt to take the bit out of the hole. This is NOT a good thing.

The CONS are deal-breakers for me. I'm sure a lot of people will find that negligible. If that is the case, by all means, buy this drill. It seems to be very good build, very powerful drill and will last for years to come. It's just not what I needed from a high-end drill. Ended up buying a used 7 AMP Chinese-made Milwaukee 3/8" drill from Amazon Warehouse. This drill has 1/2"-20 spindle thread so I just needed to buy a new 1/2" LFA chuck with carbide jaws to replace the OEM one. Everything is well. Chuck runs extremely true (thank God). I do wish Milwaukee (or any other brand, for that matter) makes a corded drill that has ALL the features of a high-end cordless drill (spindle lock, adjustable clutch, 2 speed selector switch, electric brake...). So far, only Ryobi makes one with a clutch (not a very good clutch at all, lowest setting is still too stiff). I'd like to see other better brands jumps on this wagon and I'm willing to pay extra for those features. Hope you find this lengthy review helpful.

Versatility, Durability, and a Convenient Keyless Chuck

If you want a tool for basic household use, like putting up mini-blinds, assembling furniture, etc, then this is the drill for you. It's terrific for all but heavy-duty construction use. Light and easy to handle, with a nifty little carrying back. Drill bits change out easily. Works as an electric screwdriver with a changeable bit for either flathead or Phillips that stores neatly in the head of the drill. Inexpensive, light and easy to handle, this makes a perfect gift for someone setting up a new house or starting that first toolbox.

Black & Decker WM425 Workmate 425-550 Pound Capacity Portable Work Bench Review

Black & Decker WM425 Workmate 425-550 Pound Capacity Portable Work Bench

I have two Workmates; the second I purchased last year, and the first, over 15 years ago. Both get regular workouts. I use them for sawhorses, tool stands, clamps, drying stands and more.
The tool stand trick isgreat for working in restricted quarters, or in the field. I have a numberof power tools mounted on a piece of plywood with a cleat screwed to thebottom so I can clamp them on the Workmate for a quick-change tool stand.
The folded metal construction and particle board tops of the currentmodels makes them look more like hobbyist gear than serious tools, but theylast. Owners get attached to them, too. Funny, but I've never seen a usedone for sale.

Leatherman 80040003K Squirt P4 Glacier Blue Multitool with Small Pliers Review

Leatherman 80040003K Squirt P4 Glacier Blue Multitool with Small Pliers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this little Leatherman! I've had mine attached to my keys for about 3 years and it is still going strong. I have the "S4" version with the scissors instead of pliers. When I saw that someone said the Micra was a better value, I had to come to the defense of the Squirt. Take it from someone who knows, the Squirt far surpasses the value of the Micra. I had gone through 2 Micras before I found the Squirt.

--Scissors Spring--
Micra - After a month or two it was so gummed up that the scissors would stay shut and would not open on their own. This was main reason I went through them so fast.
Squirt - Still springing after years, much more force behind this one.

--Scissor Grip--
Micra - When doing some serious cutting, the sharp metal frame and tools will start to slice into your hand.
Squirt - Thicker frame to house the tools on the outside lessens so it will not hurt your hand.

--Paint--
Micra - Start to flake and chip off after a month or so. (If you had to get one, get the stainless steel finish)
Squirt - Storm gray paint has scratched off but no big flakes like the Micra. The paint is bound to go through some serious wear and tear when on a keychain so some scratches are to be expected.

--Size--
Micra - Small
Squirt - Smaller

If you were thinking of getting the Micra, spend the extra 5 bucks and get a knife that is 5 times better.
